ONONDAGA NATION _ Team Canada director Johnny Mouradian was presented with a Spirit of Lacrosse Award at the world indoor lacrosse championship Saturday.

“The Spirit of Lacrosse Award is not for players, not for goals, not for assists,” said Stan Cockerton, the president of the Federation of International Lacrosse. “A recipient is picked by each team and it goes to a person who has worked hard for the team.

“I’ve known John for a long, long time and you could not have a better recipient than him not only for what he’s done for this team but what he’s done for lacrosse over the last 30 years.”

Mouradian played on Canada’s 1978 team that won the world field lacrosse championship. The former NLL general manager and coach is the men’s lacrosse coach at Bryn Athyn College in the Philadelphia region. He is a member of the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the NLL Hall of Fame.

“It is always an honor when you’re selected by your team, your country, to receive an award,” Mouradian said. “We just try to grow the game. We work hard to grow the game. Lacrosse has been very good to me. It changed my life and we take any opportunity we can to grow the game so others can enjoy the sport as well.”

Team Canada won their fourth fourth consecutive world indoor championship and stretched its all-time record to 23-0.

Congrats Coach Mouradian!
